Ive spent the last few years travelling in and out of Tuscany to learn and produce several types of artwork alongside the town’s precious artisans. From the very beginning I allowed myself to migrate from one artisan to another, one medium to another.
This year I spent some time with an artisan who specialises in Art Restoration and Gilding.
She introduced me to traditional painting and prepping techniques, using natural resources/materials found locally. Together we created a mixed media painting “Its All Too Much”. For this work we combined modern and traditional painting techniques. The modern being my pattern work, my own natural approach, and the traditional through the actual construction of the work, the tempera paint and gouache gilding.
Ursula Corsi was the first artisan I worked with in Tuscany. Together we built a large mosaic on mesh piece (titled Ursula), from a sketch I had made a few years ago. We used a variety of materials (glass, marble, beads etc.) to experiment with pattern-making.
